To put it simply, Rhino Bucket sound exactly like -era , something for which the band makes no apologies. Furthermore, what could easily be passed off as mere plagiarism, becomes instead a celebration of the original masterpiece thanks to Rhino Bucket’s bold-faced indifference and oftentimes fantastic songs. They also deserve some credit for coming up with one of the most original and bizarre names in rock history.Formed in Van Nuys, CA, in 1987 by Finnish-born transplant (-cloned vocals and guitar), lead guitarist , bassist , and drummer , Rhino Bucket perfectly replicated raw, three-chord boogie to perfection on their self-titled debut album.

But while they were quickly embraced by the U.K. and European press, the band was faced with nothing but apathy and scorn in America, where they were pegged as rip-off artists and received little promotional support from their label. Despite the inclusion of one of its tracks, “Ride With Yourself,” in popular Wayne’s World movie, their aptly titled second album, 1992’s Get Used to It, also failed to make any headway, and the band was soon unceremoniously dropped by Reprise. Still they soldiered on, and in an ironic twist of fate, recruited former skin-pounder to replace the departed for their third album, 1994’s independently released Pain. Rhino Bucket finally called it a day the following year, but eventually re-formed in 2001 with plans to record a new album. Interestingly, the new lineup included original drummer , billed as following sexual reassignment surgery. After a lengthy hiatus, the group returned in 2006 with And Then It Got Ugly.~ Ed Rivadavia

As one would presume, Rolling Stone Magazine have nothing to say about Rhino Bucket as they are too much like AC/DC.

Just wanted to fact check your article concerning Bucket’s Reprise years. I worked for Warners during Rhino Bucket’s time there. They actually left Reprise of thier own accord. And,there was much heated discussion(ceremony) about this. The band was upset that while Reprise was making money from Bucket the band was not ( not an unusual situation) In fact Reprise paid for the recording of most on thier 3rd album wich later came out on a different label. Also while it may be true that Reprise did not promote the band, much of that had to do with the rampant drug use and legal problems the members were involved with, not from lack of belief in what was and is a great rock band.

Rampant drug use? Legal problems? Left of their own accord? If that helps you sleep at night then ok. Reprise did not do their job with regards to Rhino Bucket, they took the Atlantic records approach: Just put it out and see if it sticks. Barry, I know you and I know Kevin, both of you did an amazing job while at Warner/Reprise. But, and let me be clear, we did not leave. You dropped us the day after Christmas. Money? Fuck money, we made more on the road than we ever got from any label. Drug use? Hehe, whatever baby, we came here to rock and then to party and we did both very well. And the only legal issue we had was that EMI Music was ripping us off and we won that court battle. I do thank you my friend for admitting that we are a solid rock band. it’s just too bad that, at the time, Warner/ Reprise had no ability to actually do anything about it. I guess when you have expense accounts and a nice fucking car you forget what the fuck you are there for.
    Cheers,
    Georg

    Hello Georg
Interesting comments indeed. As you can tell by my site that i really like Rhino Bucket’s music and not one single person has disagreed with Rhino Bucket being in the Definitive 1000 songs of all time! But I have a question …. was there ever a video made of “Ride With Yourself”? Also how do you feel about “Youtube” removing music video’s? ~

  4. Georg Dolivo Says:

    Hola,

We never did a video for “Ride with yourself”. Warner/Reprise were too busy messing around with Madonna at the time. LOL Our videos are still on youtube. Are they going to remove them? I, and I’m being honest here, just got upset that Barry would try to deflect the blame from himself as to why Warner/Reprise never broke a young rock band. Good God, they were clueless. They had us and the band LSD. Two bands that should have had a shot but just signed to the wrong label, I guess. Whatever, but to say we had drug and legal issues is fucked up. We had no more than anyone else and we worked our asses off supporting those albums without much help from the label. Nowadays we are with Acetate and if they could get their hands on 1/100th of the money WB spends on lunches, we would be touring stadiums. WB should hire the president of Acetate to show them how to sell a band. LOL But we both know that will never happen. Thank God for the internet! I hope all the major labels and the fat that goes with them get flushed down the toilet. Thanks for allowing me to be heard.

    Cheers,
    Georg

I thought everyone has messed with Madonna? mwhaha. Well, you only have to see what artists are doing with the Internet, Radiohead is leading the way, sure they might not make a $gadzilion$ dollars in record sales, but you can guarantee their concerts will be sold out.. Is Rhino Bucket ever coming down to New Zealand? All the Kiwi fans wanna know. And as for being heard … your always welcome. ~ crowbarred
